As more and more palm oil plantations are destroying rainforests, the more orangutans are suffering. Since palm oil is in so many products such as: shampoo, soap, baked goods, cookies, etc, the demand for it is really high. When the orangutan’s homes are destroyed they look for food on the plantations, but then they are tortured and killed because the workers see them as agricultural pests. But why is it a crime to look for food in the area that was forcefully taken away from you?

Over 100,000 sea animals die from plastic entanglement or plastic consumption. Even eating a piece of plastic that is as small as your pinky nail is deadly for sea animals. But it’s hard for them to stop themselves when there is about 100 million tons of plastic being thrown into the ocean.
Floods, wildfires, heat waves and ice caps melting are just the start of global warming.
We have the solutions to combat global warming; however, not everyone is trying. But now is the time for everyone to come and work together and try to save our Earth. Everyone has the ability, tools and resources to have a smaller carbon footprint, we just have to use them. The Earth helps to provide us with food, shelter, and many other resources, so shouldn’t we do everything we can to help preserve it.
People in third world countries use different parts of the coconut tree and fruit as a natural resource to build mats, baskets, brooms and more.

Get involved with organizations like 350.org and conservation.org where you can join rallies and volunteer in different ways. Not only do you learn from the experience but you are giving back to Earth.
While having your skincare routine, go for the organic face wash which is paraben-free, sulfate-free, and cruelty-free.
Create a homemade compost bin to prevent waste going in landfills and you can provide the soil with nutrients. It will make your kitchen smell better and you will have less garbage
Wash your Laundry in cold water instead of hot. It saves energy and prevents carbon pollution. Hot water uses 90% energy while cold water uses 10%
Use public transportation a few times a week to avoid driving and regularly clean out your car to avoid making it heavier with junk. A heavier car will use more gas andmake sure your tires have enough air in them.
Save water by fixing leaks, taking short showers, turn offf the tap when brushing your teeth, and boil only the water you require for cooking
Ditch plastic bags. 100 bllion are used daily and only 1-3% are recycled.

Growing up in Poland, I was constantly surrounded by nature and sustainable development. The goal with this project is to really raise awareness about how a single individual can have such a huge impact on nature in both good and bad ways. I think that coding has allowed me to explore multiple mediums of how to get this message across. I have always loved the environment and with this modern touch of coding I was able to combine these two fields to make it more accessible to people from all over. In addition to coding, I also make documentaries. Fun Fact: I am currently working on a documentary about my school and the problems we have with recycling.

Hi, my name is Tasnim Islam and I am a rising senior at Bard High School Early College, Queens. Some things I do in my free time is read, take a walk, watch a show, or just sleep. I love doing hands on work, which is why robotics was one of my favorite topics at the program because we got to work more hands on with the bot. The reason why I wanted to do this topic is because I am a huge animal and tree lover. I love going on hikes with my friends and seeing all the trees and animals that are in the woods. I want more people to care for the animals and forests like I do because as humans we do have the power to help them. My name is Yumaly Guadalupe and I am 17 years old, I am going into 12th grade. I started to be interested in this topic around middle school when we were learning about global warming and how it affected animals that have to live in the cold to be able to survive. That's when I realized we wasn't really taking care of earth like we really supposed to do and we need it to start learning how we can change to make the world a better place for everyone.
